How To Measure Blinds for Internal or External Installation

Precision Measuring
  • Decide if your blinds will be inside or outside the window frame.
  • Always use a steel tape measure for accuracy. DO NOT use a cloth tape.
  • Measure and round off to the nearest mm. Check in several places in case the window is not perfectly square.
  • If deductions are necessary, the specialist will make the allowances. Do not make these yourself.
  • First, measure WIDTH, write it down. Clearly indicate this measurement is the width (side to side).
  • Second, measure DROP, write it down. Clearly indicate this measurement is the drop (top to bottom).
  • It is very common to transpose measurements. Always indicate the WIDTH (side to side) measurement first, then the DROP (top to bottom) last. (e.g.. 2150w x 1530d or 2150 x 1530)
  • Remember one very important thing when measuring for an inside mount - Take the ACTUAL WINDOW OPENING SIZE to give to us, our specialist will take all the proper allowances for it to fit into that opening.
  • Double check ALL measurements.
Inside Mount (recessed)

If you have decided on an inside mount, we will need you to provide us with the window opening measurements. A deduction will be made to ensure proper operation and provide enough allowance for the blinds not to rub against the frame.
  • WIDTH: Measure the EXACT width of the window in three places. Use the narrowest width measurement.
  • DROP: Measure the EXACT DROP of the window in three places. Use the shortest height measurement.

Outside Mount

Outside mounts will make windows appear bigger and can be used to advantage to hide unattractive windows. The window covering will hang outside the actual window frame, over lapping the window frame enough to cover for maximum privacy and light blockage.

Width Measurement
Without wood frame or architrave. Measure the width you require to cover. Measure 50mm past either side of the window opening for greater privacy.
With wood frame or architrave. Measure the width you require to cover. Measure 50mm past either side of the window opening even if the 50mm passes the wood frame or architrave.

Drop Measurement
Without wood frame or architrave. Measure the drop you require to cover. Measure 50mm past top and bottom for greater privacy - or to the top of the sill or to the floor.
With wood frame or architrave. Measure the drop you require. Measure from the top of the architrave to 50mm past the bottom architrave for greater privacy cover or to the bottom of a protruding sill or to the floor.

Measure three-drop measurements. Left side, the middle and the right side and only write down the smallest measurement of the three. This is to ensure that the window is not out of square.

Important
Only supply exact measurements in millimetres. The specialist will make allowances to ensure a proper fit.

A Word About Accuracy

In order to accurately custom manufacture blinds, precision measurements are necessary. All dimensions indicated must be absolutely correct to ensure proper fit. We cannot be and will not be held accountable for inaccurate measurements! If you have questions about measuring, be sure to email us before placing your order.

Installation Instructions (Cedar Venetian Blinds)

1.   Select the method of mounting that best suits your purpose (see illustrations A, B, C)

            A. Inside mounting to the inside or between the sides of window frame.

            B. Outside mounting to the face or outside of window frame.

            C. Ceiling mounting to an overhead surface such as the top inside of window frame or the ceiling.

2.   Measure where you want the blind to hang. Make sure that the blind is centered and level. When it is positioned properly, make a small pencil mark at each side of the blind to show where you attach the mounting brackets.

3.   Hold one bracket (the large hole faces the floor) at desired height and width you have chosen and mark the screw holes with a pencil. Then insert and tighten screw through bracket slot.

4.   After the first bracket is mounted, carefully position and attach the second bracket. Double check to be sure that it is level with the first bracket and that the brackets are the proper distance apart.

5.   Pick up the blind and slide the head rail into the brackets. Make sure that the blind cords face toward you. Close the front cap on each bracket (see illustration D.)

To Operate Blinds

Lowering: Hold core at eye level and move to left pulling down gently until cord lock releases. Allow cord to slip through fingers until blind reaches desired level. Move pull cord to the right and release; blind will lock automatically.

Raising: Pull cord downward until blind reaches desired height, release cord, the blind locks automatically.

Tilting: Pull cord on left side of blind upwards or downwards to attain desired slat positions.

Important: Always tilt blind horizontally before raising or lowering the blind this increases the life of the blind.

To Install Valance
After your blind has been installed, attach the matching wood valence by its metal clips which attaches to the head rail. To install returns use glue.
